sure he wasn't talking about the ports being made out of PVC. thats usually quite acceptable. But for car applications 24mm MDF is the way to go - maybe 18mm if your worried about the weight.

having said that. I saw a fantastic triple bandpass design that used PVC with 90deg bends. it was all consealed, but the PVC did its job.

18mm mdf and use pvc as the bass ports, if its designed for a bass reflex enclosure.
Plastic and fibreglass enclosures are crap, nothing else.

Damn a glass box would be heavy Razz

Seriously though, I've seen a totally perspex box before (like 1 inch thick, laser cut stuff) and it looked great.

Perspex is a good alternative. If u just gonna dump a box and have it just purely for bass not for appearance go for mdf. U get nice doofy bass from that. Otherwise for spl wise. Glass Razz Razz Razz.

How much does a laser cut perspex box made to 60l for a 12 inch cost? anyone have a rough figure?

make sure you find out if the speaker is designed for any of the following! Sealed/ Bass reflex/ infinite baffle!

A sealed speaker in a bass reflex box will sound shit

You guys heard of foamex?

It's foamed PVC that comes in thicknesses like MDF is. And it's got a solid skin on it, so it looks like laminated wood at first. Very easy to work with.

I remember an electronic techician I worked with had 2 woofers (yes just normal woofers) inline inside a big cardboard tube. funny thing was it cranked more bass than the other subs in the workshop.
