I know the 3K is for from been a performance engine, but I have one in my $100 KE30 motorkhana car and want to know how far I can rev it without too much damage.
I have searched the net, but not found anything so far.
Cheers.

These ar tough little engine, and I doubt you'll break it through revs. I'd happily go to 7500 on a standard motor. where are you motorkhana'ing?

You'll only need a level 2 NS (non speed) for motorkhanas, but you will also need to be a memeber of a CAMS affiliated club to get one. I'm a member of the Mini Car Club here in Perth as it's one of the cheapest for this purpose ($15 a year). the CAMS license is only $50 so you get good insurance for $65/year in my opinion - but nothing else from CAMS, they're as useless as tits on a bull to talk too!
PM me if you want any pointers on setup for motorkhanas (yes, I still remember your "struts" post from a few months ago)?!
Clint
ps, if you have any spare K series motors that are stuffed, I'm always looking for them!!!?

a totally stock motor will tend to lose power above 6-6500rpm, and valve bounce or points bounce around 6500-7500rpm, depending on condition of springs/points.
it revs much nicer of you balance the rods and pistons tho
i rev my 4K to around 7K all the time, occasionally to 8K, and accidentally higher...
no real point revving past 6 with a stocko tho, as the cam and heas run out of puff..
have fun

So basically if I keep it below 6k it should be fine.
Thanks for the info BTW.

With absolutely no mechanical sympathy I used to rev my 3K to 8000rpm. Only "work" done on this motor was a home job re-con on someones back doorstep ie new rings, bearings and not even honed. Held together for over 40,000ks in one year before I sold it.
This abuse included lots of 8000rpm launches at the drags and similar rev levels on grass. Never broke anything.
This shows just how strong and revvy a 3K is (my 4K with extractors would only go to 700rpm) but I would definitely NOT recommend this treatment unless you are willing to change the odd engine ocassionally.

until i actually break a K motor i've built, i'm not much of a god

mm alex you musta had some goo dcondition stocko valve springs. most of mine have been shagged... and they do get worse over time too... one motor bounced at 7500.. then 7000, then 6500.. then 6000....
