Mandrel bend vs Press bend Fri, 30 January 2004 13:58 Go to next message
Would like to know if its worth getting madrel bend for a NA car or press bend...and how much power difference is there?
Coz the price for a mandrel bend is like almost double the price of the press bend...so if it only a gain of like 1-2 wheel kw compared to press bend then i just dont see any point in getting mandrel..

really depends on the exhaust size and type of motor you want to run. I've used both, the secret is to match the pipe diamter to suit the engine.

definitely... i used a mixture of press and mandrel... the main difference is in the radius of the bends..

for a high angle bend (90+?), mandrel will have larger diameter.
but a press bent with a larger inital diamter will have same diameter as smaller mandrel bent... Very Happy

the only places i would use mandrel bends on an NA car is over the diff, and when making up a set of extractors where space is of the essence, or tight large angle bends are needed. this is basically becuase mandrel has tighter (smaller radius) bends, and crushes less for high angle....
