Clutch master and slave for 77 celica Tue, 06 August 2002 09:49 Go to next message
Looks like, or rather sounds like, the seals are going in the master and slave cylinders on my clutch, reverse tends to crunch unless the pedal gets pumped a few times so I'm guessing it's not generating the pressure it needs (and the pedal goes most of the way to the floor before it does much).
I took a look at the bolts for it (the master) and there's only one nut on the engine side (there's a bolt above and below) sticking out, the other bolt goes back into the firewall. Do I need to go in through the dash to get to this one?
Anyone know how much the kit to fix the seals costs?
How much of a bastard are they to change? A friend of mine had a bitch of a time doing them in his 240z, I'm kind of hoping I'm not in for the same grief. Cheers, Chris.

Hey there chris.

To get the master out, u gotta get under the dash to get that final bolt out. Its not hard tho. But ur best be is just to buy a brand new master. I did this for my RA23 (so same part) and it was only like $30 maybe less! i was amazed how cheap it was. Its a PRB one (i think thats the brand) And it came from repco, they even had it in stock.

and im pretty sure ive got a slave kiking round in my parts stash....

Awesome, nice to be able to buy parts off the shelf for a change - and without forking over half my pay - I was afraid I'd have to go to Toyota... That's good to know that nut's not too hard to get to, my friend had to contort into all kinds of weird yoga positions to fix his up. Any chance I might be able to get my hands on that spare slave of yours (you were talking about a car part weren't you?Smile Anyway, thanks for the help, I'll probably see you on wednesday hey. Chris.

Got quoted $170 to rebuild my master and slave Shocked. Only master was fucked so went to the wreakers and picked up a rebuild one on a wreak for $11 Very Happy. Been in there for 4 months now and no problems. O yes the bolt can be undone without the dash coming off. The one at the wreakers was on top of 2 cars so i was 4 meters in the air upside down in this car trying to get that dam bolt ondone and the little pin out. Was a funny site hehehe
