Nevo pulley install Mon, 02 February 2004 06:49 Go to next message
Guys
I am about to purchase a Nevo upsized pulley for my ZE

just wondering how much for a mechanic to install it in my AW11.
Apparently the right side of the engine has to be dropped down to get at the pulleys. Has anyone here put 1 in themselves??
I dont think I could manage myself......
Is it possible to do it without dropping engine out?? sounds expensive.....

thanks
Martin

I my humbelest opinion, the only way you could get access to that without dropping the engine out would be to pull the car apart around the engine. I doubt I've been any help now. Razz

I've put one in, it shouldn't be a big job for a mechanic. That being said, you should replace the woodruff key while you're in there, and that can be a mongerel....

It takes about 5 minutes to undo the 3 nuts on the engine mounts on the drivers side. You don't even need to take the nuts right off the bolt.. just screw them to the end of the tread and the engine will drop about 2 inches. I just did an idler pulley adjustment in my AW11 on the weekend... 14mm soket and about 18inches of extension bars and it is a piece of piss! Crank pulley dunno... never been there... but i imagine you need some sort of puller tool!!! ie not your hand! Razz

mechanic friend...

hate that line

hate being the mechanic friend sometimes....

if its not ur car giving u troubles its someone elses and expected to be done for free!!

any way about the crank pulley just take the wheel off n the inner guard n get to it from there just give it a spray with wd40 n a lil tap with a hammer if it doesnt come off straight away

do u replace the supercharger pulley or any of the other pulleys with that pulley kit...

not sure about mr2 but i did my timing belt on my rolla which required me to take the crank pulley off.

in the auto stores the crank pulley is called a harmonic balancer, so just buy a harmonic balancer puller from somewhere like repco or someshit for around 15 dollars.

screw it on the pulley and the pulley will slide off. i had the motor held up with a trolley jack under the sump with it lowered slightly caus i was spacing the engine mount out.

i used jason p's trick of having the torque wrench on the pulley bolt whilst giving the starter a quick flick. did the trick really nicely.

I put one on an AE101 GTZ a while back, you certainly don't have to take the engine out or anything... Actually, it's not that hard at all Evil or Very Mad Even easier with a hoist and a rattlegun, probably take about an hour.
