Well , you COULD buy my deck and stacker , then set up a nice set of new 4 inch focal splits for the front - which would set you back less than 500 dollars
Throw in some eclipse 6 inch coaxes wherever you can for a bit of bass and youd be rocking

Depends what car its for? Whats the budget? Ricer or performance. A good headunit with a choice speaker would give out quite nice sound.
I know a few guys in the inner melbourne area that do a good rate but depending on the job it still can be costly.

sorry boys didn't think of it till last night. Checking out Feral4's setup at the moment, and gonna search for a guy in the states that has done a nice setup in his. The cars more perfomance orientated, but i want some tunes to cruise while the tops off
was thinking
Sony Deck (the one thats in it for the time being)
Front Splits of some sort.
Rear splits of some sort.
Amp (i've got a shitty 4X100 watt amp that i can use till i get another one)

In my RA23 I had a really good set up and it was a real cheapy, the sub and amp from Cashies, Kenwood head unit, 2 cheap 6x9's and 2 splits. It wasn't anything fancy to look at but it sounded really good. Often expensive isn't the best.
I miss my sub

Ok,
Headunit: Minimally, get one with a MOSFET chip in it, (most decent brands these days do, but Pioneer did it first )
That way you can live without an amp for a bit if $$ is tight.
Speakers: 4" splits in the front, possibly either side of the centre console, near the floor? with tweeters up on the dash, or the A pillars.
Look a the depth of your doors, consider 6", 7" or even 6x9" in the doors, for a bit more midrange and bass, as you are definately going to struggle for subwoofer space!
Sub: pah, just put a rattle in your exhaust!!
Amp: consider mounting this in the 'front boot'?

I've seen one of these aw11's even a sw20 doesn't have much space to work with. If u really after great sound how about a sub mounted in the front where the spare wheel is? U doubt u can fit any decent subbie in the boot. I rekon u can fit a great 12 or 15 in the front.
My idea.
get a half decent unit preferably 4x50 watts something respectable. Throw a set of mbquarts in the doors. DB dynamics. They are under the 600 buck mark. For under 1k u get a great starting block. THen u can start looking into a nice subby somewhere in teh car. U might be able to bolt/mount a enclosed 6x9 box somewhere obsecure but still audible. Get a decent 5 channel n u'r set
but nevertheless 6.5 " are only capable of only so much power n response + bass. But u'll still get great sound from them if its installed properly.

seen a mr2 like yours fully decked out with dvd player and dash mounted screen etc. it was mint. just get good 4inch splits for the front and some 2-way 6*9's for some bass. prob no neet to use amp in such small space unless u wanna cruise chapel with it own full ball
mine sony 200watt head unit with no amp still puts out enough sound to run 4 speakers, only reason i ever get amp is if i add a sub

Clown mate, your car is hella loud enough inside!
You be a deaf man with amped audio
Could checkout Total Recoil splits, but they are a tad pricey heheh.
