Took my Supra around Eastern Creek Raceway Mon, 02 February 2004 08:57 Go to next message
Last Wednesday on my way back to Tas. from Qld I took the Supra around Eastern Creek at a twilight drive meeting. My supra is an ma61 with 1jz,330mm discs and brembo's, koni's, springs, swaybars etc. Man that was THE most fun I've ever had in a car in my life. Nothing can beat this racetrack biz. My bro. took his rb20 vl commodore and a friend took his GTR as well and I drove all three. The vl handled so well with the same susp. mods. as mine but had Noltec strut tops which made a ton of difference. I totally blew him away down the straight though and the car was superfast I can't rave enough about the tune by Matthew Spry. I totally wasted my back tyres with wheelspin including third gear coming onto the straight. If you get the chance to take your car on a race track go ahead you won't regret it!!!!

Times? Don't know you had to do that yourself or get someone to do it for you. It wouldn't have been very fast though. I thought the car handled so well but on a racetrack it soon shows up its shortcomings and my rear tyres were some Kumho Ectsa's which are total rubbish on a track. I was just impressed with the straight line speed of the car. If I had the Noltec strut tops like my bro. it would have made a hell of a difference, but the back was walking around on the tyres too much to tell what I needed back there. I'm not going to spend money on stiffer springs etc. when it's still my daily driver so I guess I just have to be happy with what i got. I do need 2 new tyres on the back so I'm going to get something sticky so I can take it around Symmons Plains as well.......soon!

What are the discs that you have from? I'm currently looking at upgrading my brakes. At the moment I have just been recomended JZA/MA70 DBA slotted Rotors (about 300-302mm I think) and JZA/MA70 calipers. I need something that will work well on club sprint days and on the street.

Danish, the discs are slotted 330x28 from Specialized Brake and Clutch in Sydney on a custom hat. $450 each side with the hat, which I think is good value but no one else seems to! I don't care, you get what you pay for and there's no adapting or messing around and these suckers stop!!!!!

Hiya Supra1jz,

Yes, having a go on the track is heaps of fun, and thats where I intend to take mine every now and then when I am done.

I am about the replace the shocks as an overall upgrade, what did you pay for your Konis ? and what part numbers did you get ?

I think that what you got for your brakes is a good price, but I am doing something similar fo a little cheaper, but I have the time and ability to do it myself.

I would really appreciate your help with the shocks

Cheers

I can't help with part no's because I've lost the receipt. Ring Penrith Wholesale Suspension as they're the guys who fitted it all. I got it done at mates rates so I can't help you there either. What I can say is that the Koni's are brilliant but ideally for the track you'll need stiffer springs which I'm not prepared to do. I will definitely get the strut tops though as I think that's a good upgrade. Sorry I can't be more help.

Cheers Rich,

I'll give them a go. Do you have Koni Yellow's or Koni reds ?

I already have my Kings springs sitting in the garage, just need the shocks and bushes to go with it

Cheers
