Supra Diff ratios Tue, 03 February 2004 01:26 Go to next message
Hi all,
I have a chance to pick up a TRD MA70 rear diff but the ratios don't appear to suit my needs....2.9:1 and 4.3:1.

What ratios do the stock MA70 and/or JZA70 diffs come in?

There's a huge range of aftermarket gear available for G series diffs, remember they use them in Hilux's as well as Supras. I was looking into this a while ago when I was deciding on a diff for my Supra, and I found heaps of G series stuff.

The Aus-spec MA71 turbo has a 3.7:1 ratio but from memory the ratios vary between 3.5:1 and 4.3:1 in the Mk3's. Then if you look at OEM Hilux diffs you can go as low as 5.3:1 or something silly like that!

Which gear ratio are you looking for anyway?

Stock ma70 non-turbo manual comes with a 4.3:1 4 pinion LSD diff (G285). There should be a few of these around the place.

Well with the torque of a twin turbo 1UZ i reckon i can get away with a 3.7:1 as a good alrounder. The car will see the track a bit so it has to be on the shorter side of things i reckon.

Sounds good. Smile

FWIW I'm running a 3.5:1 ratio and it's very well suited to the torque of the 2JZ. Methinks your beast will a tyre-frying monster no matter what you do though!

Methinks so too, that was the point Smile

Anyone got a 3.5:1 or 3.7:1 ring and pinion for sale?
