1jz-gte in a early model Supra? Tue, 03 February 2004 05:56 Go to next message
Hello All Smile
Not up on the chassis codes for the Supra's, but I am looking for info on installing a 1jz-gte in a early model Supra (87-90 or so). I not sure what was the base motor for those cars. Was it the 7M or was that the 5M? Anyways.
I am looking to see if the swap can be done and what is necessary to swap this motor in.

The short story is: I work part time at a performance shop here in the states and one of the guys was asking me if I know if it could be done. That's why I came to you guys.
I can get the motors for around $1,100 US and the early model chassis fairly cheap also.

Sorry for the ignorance, but I am a 4ag guy myself. They just consider me the Toyota guy since they mostly work on Honda's,Nissan's,DSM's,Subaru's.
Thanks in advance!!
C-YA!!
Aaron

the mk3 3 supra you're talking about (ma70) came with the 7m motor in locally delivered cars, but in japan it came with the 1jz engine, so everything is a very nice fit.
I know that since the US runs loom, steering, etc on the opposite side of the car to japan, there are a couple of problems involved there
if you can get yourself a half cut, that would be ideal. then you can just drop the entire crossmember out and put it in. As I said, the loom needs extending (I think)

I think you're talking about the mk3 supra (ma70, ma71)- was available from 87-92 and came with a 3lt 7m engine in turbo and non-turbo.

Yes you can do a 1jz conversion, it's easier if you have a jza70 front cut from japan. Essentially it's been covered heaps before, but you need to know your chassis code - should be an MAxx and then do a search. Heaps of info on this on the supraforums.com.

What years are the MA60's?
That would be the 1st generation body style correct?

If you're interested in swapping a 1JZ-GTE into a Mk3 Supra (86-91), go to www.supraforums.com and check out the 1JZ/2JZ swap section. You'll find all the information you need there.

Thanks for the info and links Yall. (I'm a Southern Yank)
Southern VA to be exact. Smile

As far as getting hired in performance shops here in the US:
It comes down to who you know!!
Some places will take your info and hire you that way too.

I got into Millennium threw one of my clubmates who is a full time tech there. So that was my back door way in.
Word of mouth is the next best way though.
Sorry no good contacts from me.
I take it you are trying to move to the states?
What area/state are you looking at?

Well, talk to yall later.
C-YA!!
