Can anyone help this guy out?

"Unfortunately the mechanic who's been looking after the car, isn't able to find out why the car is losing power (fiance thinks it has something to do with the fuel pump, but I'm too mechanically challenged to know any better. Could be ecu problem, wiring problem or other). Basically, when you push your foot on the accelerator, the car takes forever (couple of seconds at least) before power comes from the engine and the car moves. this doesn't happen 100% of the time, but over 50% for sure. It seems to happen when going from 2nd to 3rd, but does happen when u take off in 1st.

Need ur help peeps, urgently. Sad "

EDIT: It's a GTE.

if its running fine everywhere except for putting the pedal down, id be looking at fuel.

running stupidly rich, esp accel enrichment, can cause major bog down and loss of power upon acel. running in limp mode? check diags...

also: what rpm is he shifting into?

also check the usuals - spark, timing, etc
infact pulling the plugds might give him some idea as to whats going on in the cyls too. ie rich/lean/hot/oil/bhg etc

cheers
