4A-C Head Gasket change Wed, 07 August 2002 10:34 Go to next message
Hey guys,
I've just offered to change the head gasket on a 4A-C, in a AE82.
Is there anything that i should look out for when doing this?
Do these things normally have a problem with head gaskets?
Apparently this one was change and the head was recod only 18months ago...

thanks,
CamZH

4AC's can be a little bit 7Mish this way, if they start going through gaskets, then theres a good chance that block is a bit twisty...

You shouldne have any problems with changing the head gasket. I did mine in about 4 hours by myself.

I left the inlet and exhaust manifold on the head, saving the need for replacing 2 gaskets. Makes it all a bit heavy to lift tho.

Like mrshin said, if you can, check the head and block for warping. Also look to see if there is any pitting on the edge of the cylinders or water jacket. They are quite close in a few places!

You will need to remove the cam and rockers to get to a couple of the head bolts, so make sure you check the timing marks!

Heavy?
Ha!
I'm used to working with old 6's and V8's!
Good ol' cast iron is good for buffing you up Razz
I'll make sure i check the block out, the head was recod when the gasket was done.
