it's been a while since i've seen a TE72, but do they have R&P steering??
do TE72 have rear coils?
in principal it would work, as long as steering is same, and rear spring mounts are same. as long as the 'configuration' of bits is the same, i don't see why it would be hard to swap across. does the TE72 use the KE70/AE86 floorpan??
2TG KE70 would be nice, bit different to the AE70's around

there will be some problems...
TE72 does NOT have racoon peanut steering
BUT TE72 driveline does bolt up to the KE70.
There is another option..... TE71!!!! I have only ever seen one of these, at pick'n'payless. Its a KE70 with a 2T or 3T and TE72 driveline.... but again this one has rotating ball steering!
So its possible, but you would have to make up your own engine mounts.

But surely if you're using a TE- engine crossmember the 2T-G will bolt to these mounts...?

well if you can get the Xmember in then yes it will bolt up.. the trans shouldnt be an issue as theres two sets of location holes and it not hard to adapt something if they dont work out in any case.
im not positive it would bolt up but im geussing it would be pretty close (see,s drill in a though bubble ), but the TE71 i could say with asssured certainty would

yes they were an import here but came standard as the DX corolla in NZ, and there were lots of them so you should be able to find parts there

I actually have 2 TE71s in my backyard at the moment The ae71/ae86 crossmember will bolt straight in, giving you racoon peanut steering, but you'll have to mod the shaft/column to fit onto it yourself
The diffs etc. will all swap straight over no dramas. If anyones interested in the remains of a very rusty TE71, PM me soon, as it's going to get crushed otherwise!

Sorry to resurrect this, thinking more seriously about attacking it now.
Crossmembers:
AE/KE/TE are interchangeable.
TE (ie. TE71, TE72) use recirculating ball steering.
AE, KE use rack and pinion.
Goal:
KE70 shell, 2T-G, rack and pinion.
So:
1. Fit TE crossmember and adapt rack and pinion to suit. Is this feasable, by welding mounts onto the crossmember from a sample KE70 rack maybe?
2. Utilise AE/KE crossmember with rack and pinion and adapt 2T-G to suit (prefer use KE70 member as fitted OEM.)
Is KE crossmember front sump?
Is AE crossmember front sump?
Is the KE/AE steering rack et. al. the same? ie. If using AE71 crossmember will the existing KE rack fit it?

Good question. I've got access to a 2T-G and KE70.

keep in mind you can't put an older engine in a newer car, for example a 1975 2t-g into a 1980 ke70, unless you run it on lpg

Engine is 88260, hopefully will be okay. Thanks for the advice, I'll look into it.
Any suggestions as to the mechanical issue?
