Tried a search on the topic no results so i thought i'd ask you guys, WHICH would get better milage ? Single or Twins.
AND why would an Apexi S-AFC give you better milage ??
cheers

Well I can't really answer the first one, from a mileage point of view, they should be pretty similar.
The reason the S-AFC can improve mileage is turbo cars are 99% of the time tuned rich from the factory and leaning the mixtures out to improve power has the side effect of using less fuel.

as far as I understand it, it doesn't really matter. I would have thought that it would be the total airflow which determines if a single or twin setup would use more fuel eg. Say you have a constant air fuel ratio of 12.5:1 with a single and a twin setup. Well if the single setup pumps more air, then there will be more fuel needed to keep the ratio consistant or vice versa. So basically whichever setup has the higher flow will use more petrol and also make more power.

As said, whichever makes less power & is tuned the best.
But it's really way too broad a question to make, twins would suck on a small 4cyl & might use more fuel to get a good result than a suitably sized single.
If you're talking about a 1j or similar you won't get much better than standard turbos & a really good tune.

Fuel economy isn't that simple. If you have the capability of more power, it doesn't mean that you are using fuel inefficiently, or even using more fuel. More power = faster = less time = less fuel (very simplified maths).
Fuel economy is actually related to how efficiently you use the air and the fuel...it can be related to *tonnes* of things. Head flow design, combustion efficiency. A twin turbo set up is probably harder to make fuel efficient than a single turbo set up.
One of the constant factors in a twin-turbo set up is that it weighs more. The other is that you have to spool up two turbines (not always at the same time though), which generally leads to innefficient use of fuel (not necessarily more power either).

The two turbines on a twin setup are generally lighter and spool faster than a big single with similar flow, so I can't see why twins would use more fuel!
I agree with the general consensus though, single or twin makes bugger-all difference. Tuning is everything.

As always it depends on the set up and the tuning!
If you are using sequential twin turbos then you've got plenty of things to think about. If you are using a more true 'twin' turbo (ie at the same time) then things can be different again.
The thing is the overall weight it adds to the car (by having twin turbos) over a single turbo. How heavy your car is will affect your fuel efficiency.
