Does anyone know if it is possible to remove the stock 1JZ turbo dump Y peice without removing the whole turbo(s) assembly? I know you have to unscrew the studs from the turbos but it just looks impossible to get to the nuts underneath both turbo's.
Theres no reason why it shouldnt slide out, but whether it will or not is another matter. You may have to loosen all the supporting brackets and bolts of the turbos..
I fortunately removed mine with the engine out of the car. It may possibly be quicker to just take a turbo off. I think you may have alot of problems getting those studs out with all the heating and cooling they put up with. The last thing you want is to shear one off.

it is possible ( I have done it a number of times) to rotate the y peice so that the bottom bolts can be removed.
You also need to back the threads out fo the turbo housing by locking two nuts against each other. The y peice should slide out then.
To rotate the y peice you may have to use a large hammer - be carefull though cos if you bend a stud it is nearly impossible to complete the job and you cant put it back together either.
Thanks guys, I think i have come to the conclusion that at least one turbo needs to come off. Like Skip says the studs look very brown and stuck in good with all the heating and cooling etc. I am sure they will not come out without massive effort on each one. And I just don't how on earth you access the bottom bolt on the rear turbo closest to the block!
I can't even feel the nut with my finger let alone get a spanner in there!!
