A few people, not sure if they're on here have done custom turbo setups. A couple of magazines have featured them, one made 160rwkw.
The 1GFE is pretty tough. The gearbox is the same as used in the S15 200SX, so it should be up to the task as well as the diff. Lexus build quality standards tend to mean that everything is fairly over-engineered.

Didn't they release a turbo is200 in Japan? I think it was badged as an "Altezza". If you looked up the specs on that you could find out if it uses the same components as our lexus is200, or try and get your hands on the Altezza parts if they are different.

No, the Altezza used a BEAMS 3SGE with 210ps. It was naturally aspirated and used the same box.

It's a shame you can't use the gte exhaust manifolds on FE head.
Anyhow, whats the guf on having forced induction on the VVTi head. Doesn't it push in a lot of valve overlap at higher reve. Shurely this is not a desirable thing for a turbo engine. You could probably disable this feature but would it then cause problems with emissions?? Not trying to knock it but genuinly interested in how it would work.

From my understanding lots of valve overlap on a turbo engine is a bad thing at low rpm, but it's fine at high rpm. Since the VVTi progressively increases overlap as the revs increase I hypothesise it would all work out peachy. Now someone give me an IS200 so I can gather some empirical data.

I like the cut of your jib!
Actually that would be very easy to do; you'd just swap in a late-model 2JZ-GTE with VVTi. And now that I think about it, that proves that VVTi + turbo = good.

Yeah, but who has the $$ to buy an IS300, and start swapping engines!!???
There have been a few turbo ones, but I heard reliabilty gets the better of them.
