4age Engine check light Mon, 09 February 2004 04:36 Go to next message
My engine check light comes on when i hit 4k rpm.

Is there any way I can check what the problem is. If so how because I have no idea.

Aren't there 2 pins i can short in the diagnosis thingy and get the error codes somehow. If I can what do the engine codes mean or where can I find them?

Thanks
Andrew

Where does the diagnostics box usually sit? Based on my wiring loom I'm guessing it's usually in the engine bay? Why put that in the engine bay when the check engine light is in the cabin? Wouldn't that make it kinda hard to check the number of flashes if you're by yourself?

Ah, righty-o Smile In my case my diagnostics box is sitting on the floor (along with the rest of my loom Razz)

Hmm... based on your signals I'm guessing your car is knocking when it hits 4K?

yep common problem I think.. my mates fell off when we re-did his head gastket on his 4age

light came on.. codes pointed to the knock sensor which was just dangling between the firewall and the block! Very Happy

plugged a second hand one in and reset the puta and everything was schweet!

I got the car off someone that babied it and I dont mean to but I thrash it a bit. I think its in shock at the moment

I'll give the second hand sensor a go. Theres an ae92 at pick and payless with the engine sitting in the boot. might give that a go. If its not the sensor what could be causing it?

Cool ok it gets thrashed alot, especially when I leave it at home and half the world tells me its a nice car to drive on my arrival home.

Two different sites said the error 52 is the knock sensor and 53 is the knock sensor bit in the ecu and the ecu is stuffed. I guess I'm looking for a new computer. Where is the ecu located?
