Afraid not. The 'zig zag thingy' that you refer to is one of the outer boots, and they are there to keep the dust out.

If you have a leak, it is more than likely one of the seals is worn and needs to be replaced by rebuilding the rack, or having a s/hand unit fitted

Cheers

you need to find where the leak is comming from, that in itself ain't easy sometimes.
Mine had been leaking for about 6 months before i found out where it was leaking. Try to clean up all the leaked power steering fluid, then take it for a drive and then check to see if you can spot the highest point where its leaking from.

mine turned out to be the power steering pipes. Let me tell you fixing that was a major pain in the ass, getting the bastard off and getting a replacement hose made up at enzed then putting it back on is not a job i'd like to do again.

Bro, I'd do a 1-8-7 on it and bust a cap in its ass.

Very likely an end seal has failed. Reco the unit.

you have the red fluid on you IC? perhaps it's leaking from those steel power steering lines that go infront of the radiator? try cleaning it all off and seeing if it gets on there again, perhaps you spilt some on the IC by accident, i did that and thought it was another leak, but it wasn't.

by the way in your signature it sounds like you have modded your 7m abit, but how come your only getting 135rwkw? isn't that abit low? stock 7mgte should get 135rwkw if not abit more?

nigz, i think you will find the zig zag rubber boot things arn't leaking, there just collecting power steering fluid which is comming from somewhere else. Both my rubber boots are ripped in half too i need new ones.

uh huh, thats where it must be coming from, those pipes up in there, only lines i could see are the ones to the oil cooler, and then i cant see up in behind that, may have to check that out Rolling Eyes

as for the power out put, thats just what came with the car when it was rebuilt in `03, so im guessing it was straight after they rebuilt, since iv had the car it hasnt been dynoed, but soon will and i'll slap the lexus afm in too.

what would a rough power out put be atm?
