AE86 understeer Tue, 10 February 2004 07:00 Go to next message
after watching a lot of drift videos i have noticed that the AE86's have a whole lot of camber on the front wheels; this is not really the best idea in terms of tyre wear, is there more tyre friendly way to get the understeer out of AE86s???

chuck it back in 2nd gear, swing this way <---- then go that way ----> and rev.. tah dah! scandinavian flick.. just like makinen!

the reason why you're understeering is because all the weight is on the front wheels.

Most cars are designed to understeer because it is safer. If the car understeers, the drivers natural reaction is to put more steering into it and brake. This transfers more weight onto the important tyre and the car has a better chance of getting around the corner.

When a car oversteers and brakes are applied, it generally hits something hard.

every car including F1 cars will understeer if u push it into a corner past its relative threshold.

how about the three wheeled car out of Mr.Bean???

UNdersteer is gay as hell... i suppose Porsches dont understeer as much as most cars, due to the RR engine setup. but im usually wrong so go figure

Although Rex does love some proper drift action. Rex suggests you dont put any faith into camber setup on most of the cars. It is more of an image thing than anything else.

Any car will understeer depending on how you enter the corner. Put some money towards a good suspension textbook and learn exactly how performance suspension works. dont assume that just because someone else uses a particular setup that it (1) It is the best setup, or (2) Even works.
