I'll certainly come along and watch if I have the time, but I'm in the same boat as you Evil, I know very little about hands on stuff.

I would happily strip all the bits off the MTEU and 5ME, I just don't have the time to do any of the bolting together. Invariably there are little bits missing or something breaks that always makes the job twice as long as predicted.

Hahaha ryley. I was going to offer this to anyone wanting to help with installing the supercharger. But I think I'll be able to manage with a couple of extra hands, plus it will take a few BBQs to get it sorted methinks. I know I'd be real keen If i was in ballarat.

I'm definately willing to help you out n stuff. Just I don't have a place to store your car and don't have a way of getting up there with my car out of operation.
I've worked on a few toyotas, even worked for toyota's service dep. in Frankston. 5m-gte ooohyeah? or sohc?

viper nipple- nice avatar. ra60s are the bomb.
but as nim said, its just the sohc, 5m-e mteu hyrbid. as far as ive researched, its not a massively complicated conversion (theres a nice thread here: http://forums.toymods.org.au/index.php?t=msg&t h=27205&rid=2351&S=9fcdf1279b1f73f975f8975 ad73c059f)
so as far as i know all that needs to be done is this:
swap manifold + turbo
crossover pipe, airbox
distributor
t-piece on block for oil feed line (for turbo)
line into sump for oil drain line (also for turbo)
then just time the bitch and start her up....
so yeah, i dont really know what im doing.... but yeah. ill keep y'all posted.

Can't you hire garage space? How much does that cost? I know my dad used to do that, but I dunno if public liability is an issue now days.

A day or two? thats very optimistic man. Only expect that with bolt on parts. Be good if it did get done in a day or two. So many things can go wrong, need extra parts and stuff. But if you can get everything there to perform the conversion, well good luck !

What are you going to do for fuel management Ryley??
You wont have spectacular luck with the stock ecu, the fuel injectors will max out fairly quickly, if u wanna do this as cheaply and simply as possible, id say to use a rising rate fuel pressure regulator, although i dont recommend it due to its crudeness and improper use of injectors.
Check out www.bgsoflex.com/megasquirt.html for the best bang for buck fuel management. I'm buying it to convert my 21R-C into 21R-E
Things you will need:
Turbo manifold - I doubt the 7mgte one will fit due to dohc/sohc differences. Just buy steampipe for like $3 a bend and make a nice durable manifold.
Spark management - You may need to simply retard ur timing or you can go with an aftermarket controller. There are other little mods you can do to ur dizzy, but im not sure how they are performed in order to retard timing under boost.
Downpipe to mate with rest of exhaust
You can drill a hole into side of block or into side of sump for oil drain. For oil feed, if you have a blocked off port in the side of ur block pressurized after the oil filter, use it instead of the oil pressure sender spot, unless u wanna run a seperate oil filter for ur turbo.
It's a pretty big job to turbo an engine, do the research before you even touch the hood release.

james-
theres a whole big thread in tech on the 5m-te project, so feel free to have a read. basically i just get a mteu engine (2.0l straight 6, almost the same as a 5me) and bolt the bits on, for a bit of fun.
but yeah, thanks anyway

what is an MA70 cooler, air to air or air to water?
what are the size differences, would a gt4 cooler be good for a 2.8l turbo 6???
coz i want to intercool that bitch...
after i figure out why the damn thing is running 19 second passes...

Air to air
Anyway - if you want cheap and cheerful it should do the job ok
its a bit smaller than the ma70 core but will flow up to 15psi without a hassle
Anyway - its there - its cheap - and if you want it lemme know

hmmmm very interesting.
the 5m-te will only be running between 6-8psi boost, anything more and i need to start spending money... what i dont want to spend.
how much would you be looking? im basically looking for best bang for buck, and i only want to be spending very little (ie, mteu engine, and a few more bits)

looking for about 100 for it - though i get to check with roman first to see if he's definantly in need of it for his coversion.
i wont be needing it seeing im HOPEFULLY going water to air - if the bloody thing ever turns up!

hmmmmm very cool...
if i turbo (should know very soon) then ill most likely get the intercooler- it'd be fine to use as a front mount, right?
however, you may have to put it on hold for me for a couple of weeks, as i dont get many shifts...
but ill let you know of all details. would it cost much to get it hooked up??

its aboe to be front mounted No pronblems - but you would need to buy the piping , Steampipe or something i believe ..
Exhaust shops should be able to supply the piping ..

hmmmm i may have found a garage to do the conversion in-
my next question, do i need to jack the engine up for anything? ie, does it need to be pulled out?
ill post this in the appropriate tech thread as well.
and whoever has volunteered to help (skilled persons, allan, any others).... could you possibly bring tools and stuff usually needed when playing with cars engines? my dads socket set probably wont cut it, nor will his electric screwdriver.....
thanks y'all
