Show me your incomplete project! Tue, 10 February 2004 13:03 Go to next message
Hi guys

Just interested to see what kind of monsters are on the build - all comers welcome, no criticism allowed!!!

Provide one pic (if more than one, post links so that the thread doesn't get clogged) and some info!

First cab off the rank

Car
Toyota Mark II (MX13)

Engine
1JZGTE & auto (JZZ30)

Brakes
4-spot calipers (80 Series Landcruiser)
Slotted Rotors (Pug)
1" Master Cylinder (JZA70)

Miscellaneous
Being set up non-turbo, then mounting a single CT26 when I have finished moving house!

Aims
Something different, unassuming, and as close to legal as possible. Should be a few weeks yet, but I will be stoked when I get it running. Once it's turbo I'll be happy with a 14 second pass of any description as long as it doesn't blow up Smile

Yay for incomplete projects! I just started mine.

Car
1977 Toyota Celica RA23

Engine
18R-GEU (currently rebuilding)
Series V RX7 turbo
JZS147 Aristo intercooler

Drivetrain
Stock W50 5-speed
Clutch TBA (probably 5-puck ceramic)
MX13 rear axle with MA61 LSD centre

Brakes
Front: MA61 Supra discs and calipers
Rear: MX13 drums

Miscellaneous
Ugly
Orange
Bogan rims

Aims
Maximum thrills on a shoestring budget. I've been putting this project off for about 7 years now so it's about time I pulled my finger out! Besides, I need something to drive while I take the Supra off the road for a brake upgrade, and I can't go back to a NA car now. Very Happy

Picture
I'll get one tomorrow.

Car
Toyota Celica XX (GA61)

Engine
1GGTE with W58 5-speed
550x250x57mm custom tube and fin intercooler

Brakes
Currently stock - Later on R32 Skyline rotors and 4-piston calipers

Miscellaneous
Restoration of the body is taking longer than the engine conversion will. At least I've had the time to get most of the engine stuff ready.

Aims
Something that is subtle, while nice to drive around all the time. Picked the 1G because it bolts right in, gives me the economy I wanted because I drive around lots. I'm aiming for a 13.5 second pass when I'm finished with it. Nice quick street car that won't buckle when I take it for a blat around a track or down the strip.

Picture
The day after I bought it:
http://users.bigpond.net.au/justcallmefrank/front1.jpg

Although it currently is in a MILLION pieces and looks nothing like this Smile

I am retaining the steering box - there is no real point going to the expense and hassle of a rack and pinion for the use I have planned. The steering box is still in good condition with no play and no leaks (despite what I was told by a professional suspension shop Rolling Eyes ).

The only reason I would like to head R&P down the track is to get a much closer steering ratio, as the steering box is something horrible like 4 turns lock to lock!

I took the measurements and had the JZZ30 sump modified heavily to suit the MX13 crossmember/steering locaiton. I made my own engine mounts by using the stock 4M rubber part and making up an adapter bracket from there.

The manual would be very easy, but very expensive. For a W58 I'd budget at least $1500 (if you can get a 2JZ one) or more like $2500 for a non-2JZ W58 or an R154. For a 6-speed you're looking at about another $4500 by the time you've fitted it. Then on top of those prices you will, by some reports, need a new ECU also.

Since the person was busy that was going to make them in the first place we ended up measuring up and crafting the mounts out of our own accord. Would have happened just the same without the pictures.

You, sir, are an absolute dickhead - you may wish to pull your head out of your arse. Before you go bagging anyone out, I suggest that you check your facts.

The picture you posted shows the engine mounts for Giant Tomato's 2JZGE Mark II, this much you obviously know. Dave was kind enough to offer to have his mounts copied and sent up to me, however this did NOT happen as he was uncontactable for around a month - conveniently the exact time when I needed the mounts.

I made my own engine mounts, and the only real assistance I had was from Wastegate (also of these forums) who was there helping me by cutting out some of the pieces I had marked out. When Nick (Wastegate) was unavailable later on, I received a small bit of assistance from a couple of other PerformanceForums members for cutting out a few bits of steel plate.

It would seem that you are the one too quick to criticise. If you had actually been aware of other Internet sites, and not so quick to bag me, you would know that I have made numerous mentions of other people's assistance, posted thanks, and even posted a picture of Wastegate doing some of the cutting work. For your reference, see him in action here:

http://www.turbosupras.com/~lmdwyer/chopchop.jpg

And a couple of quotes from posts I have made on other forums:

Quote:

I have also fitted the 2JZGTE water pump (thanks Stenno!).

Quote:

One engine mount is sorted, and the other should be done tomorrow. It has been a bit tricky without Nick as a helper.

Quote:

Nick and I headed off and had the engine there a little after lunch.

Quote:

Before heading home I dropped in at the workshop (Extreme Custom Engineering in Coopers Plains) of a guy who was recommended to me by a friend last night. As luck would have it, I have stumbled onto a good thing here! I got quoted the princely sum of $80 to modify the sump as requested... and after offering him another $20 he agreed to have it done for me by close of business today, and was even happy for me to pick it up from his house after hours as I was running late in traffic. Sump came up fantastically...

Quote:

I got up this morning at 9:30 to find a message on my phone - the tailshaft was already finished, and for only $121.00!! I have had equally good service on my three prior visits, so this is a big 'thumbs up' for Gibbs Truck & Trailer Parts on the Gold Coast.

Quote:

Nick was up to help with the cleaning and to pick up his tools

Quote:

The hoses will be finished tomorrow...I will be recommending this guy to Norbie, that's for sure!

So you see, Allan, you have been shut down fairly solidly here - perhaps in future you should consider not wasting your (and other people's) time criticising people when it is not due.
