Odd sized coilover springs? Tue, 10 February 2004 22:24 Go to next message
Hello, my coilover springs are apparently an odd-ball size. They are somewhere around 70mm internal diameter. Where most coilovers seem to be 60.

Does anyone know who might carry these springs? Kingsprings can custom make them, but i'd prefer to find an off the shelf item if possible.

Thanks
Joel

They are fine, just springs too stiff.. Trying to get a set of 280lbs/in or around about that.

Industrial Engineers and Springmakers in Adelaide can make just about any spring to your spec, or reset your current springs.

I know they're not local to you, but will probably be reasonably priced compared to most other places. Just tell them what you need and see what they say.

You might have to go Custom Joel, especially if you want a special rate.

It should not be that expensive

I am not experienced enough to pick a good spring rate, but i've been asking a lot of people..

Everyones reponses so far (suspension shops, people involved in motorsport) seem to range from 250lbs up to 300lbs. So I kinda figured 280 is half way on the high side.

Another debate is linear vs progressive. A lot of mixed answers on this one so confused as hell what one to go for.

I figured it would be good if I could find off the shelf springs for the coilovers as then I could change them as needed. But looks like might have to go custom which is cool.

You can buy 65mmID springs as an off the shelf item.
So here is a thought,do you have enough room to machine 5mm off the spring plate so you don't have to get the springs custom made?

MJH, thats a good idea mate. Should have thought of that. The top hat might be a bit harder as the spring will be quite loose in there, but either a collar of some sort or maybe just get a whole new top hat turned up the right size.. sweeeet...

Thanks
