MA70 head unit swap-over (making it look neat) Thu, 12 February 2004 10:32 Go to next message
Can someone share their secrets with me on how they made an ma70 headunit swap look neat? being a double din head unit, and my replacement being single, i will have a gaping big hole there...has anyone on here just made a metal plate or found something that fits in the space perfectly?
And also, whats the easiest way to get the thing out?
Thanks
Blake

i made a CD tray out of wood, make one out of plastic or aluminium or something and it should look much neater.

oh yeah, pull the faces off your tape player and radio and glue all the buttons on, then you stick this over your HU so anyone looking in only sees the shitty olf radio, not the cd player.

You should be able to visit say Autobarn and get a Din Pocket for that hole. Becomes usefull then too. They are about $15. Make sure it's for a Toyota and one that is no too deep.

Remove the black dash cowl with the screws. Remove the ash tray to get to screws in there. Pull black cover off watching shifter. Unplug switches on the back and lighter. Remove the 4 brass/golden screws on the 4 sides of the head unit. Remove the whole DIN assemble. Here you can unscrew the stock one.

www.soundoff.net.au (or something like that)

He did mine by adapting a blanking panel (actually a pocket) from another Toyota (some kinda Hilux I think) to cover the additional hole. Looked perfect.
