W-5X x-member compatibility?

I'm pretty definite in switching the 1JZ MA61 Supra in a stick shifter. Yay!
The auto option was always a cost comprimise, and I've found some good JZA80 gear at a good price.
Not being terribly familiar with Toyota manuals, I have three questions:
1. Do they all have bracing between the gearbox and engine? And if so, is it interchangeable?
2. Are the x-members interchangeable? That is, can I use a manual gearbox cross-member from an RA 60?
3. Can anyone recommend a good clutch? I figure I'll have somewhere in the vicinity of 300rwhp and and a smidge over 500Nm torqu in a daily driver.
Many thanks in advance.

Just been doing a little research into clutches. If I get the True Trac Torsen-style diff soon, I could also order an ACT Stage II clutch - which works out at $500 Aus., is rated at 520Nm and looks to be a full organic face with a sprung cetre. Is that a good price and spec.?

Yes, you can use an RA60 cross-member, or an MA61, externally the later model W58's are exactly the same (bar the weird shifter).
As for the clutch, I know when I'm playing out of my depth, so I spoke to the guys at the Clutch Factory (Kewdale?) and they made a recommendation for me based on power, weight of the car and my driving style. In the end they quoted me $420 for an 30% uprated pressure plate, a heavy duty Daikin clutch plate, a new thrust bearing and machining the flywheel.

wrong
the jza80 w58 has different xmember mounting bolts, in a slightly different position to the ma61 etc x-member. also the suspension cushion mount is a slightly different shape that fouls the x-member.
a big file, a drill and a bit of sweat, and it will work though
cheers

But the bolts for the crossmember on the gearbox themselves are the same as the earlier ones are they not?

nope the studs on the rubber mount on the JZA80 gearbox are different to the holes ma61 xmember.
we had to use the mill to elongate the holes diagonally outwards
when i get home i will find the pics and host them.

Are you talking about the cross-member or the box itself?

Yes, the later model W58 has a different number of bolt holes on the extension housing compared to the early W58 (I can't remember if there's an extra two or if two are missing) which means you have to use the rubber block specific to that box. As mentioned the studs on the rubber block aren't compatible with the early W58 crossmember, but it's not a big deal to modify it, ie elongate the holes a little and use big washers.
FWIW the auto crossmember that came with my Aristo is the correct width for the MA61 trans tunnel and the bolt holes almost line up perfectly with the threaded holes in the floorpan (again a little elongation is required). The only reason I didn't use this is because it would have mounted the engine further forward than I'd like.

GA70 gearbox xmember is too short to bolt into a MA61 floorpan.
one side will bolt to the floorpan fine, the other size will be an inch or so too short.

Couldnt you have just swapped the whole rear housing of the near W58, and put on the old W58 rear housing?
Thus using the original mounts and xmember?

Yes that would have been possible as well, although I vaguely remember there being some minor annoying difference between the two... something about how the selector rod fits inside the housing. In any case I decided it was a better idea to modify the crossmember, for some reason!

the mkiv selector shaft has a different interface with the shift fork thus you cant swap it over directly between boxes

Great, thanks guys!
As I already have the Chaser auto x-member in place, I'll start by seeing how it would go with the W58. Failing that, it looks like I have plenty of options!
