I think the narva ones were like $3 for 5 or something. I tried them out and they dont exactly work great. I remember they had some led style wedge globes which fit into the existing and are supposed to be a lot brighter.

They worked but the silicone was too thick so it dulded the amount of light too much. I remember in autopro they had actual coloured globes to replace those silicone covers and they would be a lot better. They were in red or blue... Seen those before?

Be careful, some cars have a tinted plastic light thingy, and use normal clear globes (ie, Commodores) so you cant change the colour without loss of brightness
Some car however, use condoms from factory (ie, my Cressida) so even the cheap Narva ones should work fine

even cheaper, and very effective alternative:
tamyia transparent model paint... and paint it straight onto the globe. i thought it wouldve burnt off, but alas 2.5years later and its a-ok. gives a great deep colour, piece of piss really.

ok I went to the hobby store on old northern road today.
Tamiya Clear Blue set me back $3. Paint went on sweet colour looked awesome on the globe. Dash is too dark though and it looks a greeny-blue, but I think this is because the white is kinda orangy on my dash so I get some cross colour mojination or something..
but all day I just coudn't bear waiting for tonight to see how they looked
But it is too dark for me. SO I am gaoing to go somewhere to see if I can get some higher wattage blade type globes but the whole peration went sweet and is just as good as any cap I am sure. And you can experiement with different colours if you like... red.. yellow...green..purple... heheeh 'cause it is SO cheep!

but won't painting the light globes blue cause a green effect? yellow light globe + blue paint = green light? would it be better to paint the globes with high temp paint instead? like those high temp paints you get in a can...just spray a light mist on the globes

normal paint wont work - it needs to be transparent paint - ie the tamyia stuff. as for it needing to be high temperature, experience has shown otherwise. the durability is just fine.
i also had some troubles with my first go being a bit dark. i subsequenty did it again with a thinner coat, and hey presto shes just fine. ALSO - makes ure there are no green filters inside the speedo (other than on the globe) and if you clean things up a bit with soapy water, will make the light easier to get out. plus youll find the perspex cover of the speedo yellows with age which can be a PITA.
btw - i did mine red, not blue - give me that audi quattro interior baby!
