5m-e air pump and cold air intake

a few questions:
the air pump stuff, and the air injection into the cynlider head...
what does it do? can it be pulled off simply, and is it worth pulling off? ive seen reports of 5MEs with a cold air intake, 2.5" exhaust and the air pump removed getting 0-100 in about 8.5 seconds...
also, a stupid question, but is a cold air intake merely a pipe that gathers intake air from outside the engine bay, so either from a panel or from somewhere like the front lip of the car?
thanks y'all....

Hehe, as an owner of a 8.5s 5M-E I can tell you that removing the air injection wont give you anything but a more eye pleasing engine bay & the possibility to run an oxygen sensor. But 2.5" exhaust sure will help it breathe! Cold-air induction doesnt hurt either.

Yeah, the air pump does bugger-all power wise, but if you want to remove it to make the engine bay neater go right ahead. Cold air induction made a surprising difference on my Supra so that's a decent thing to do for hardly any money.

Tutorials? Pfft! I just bought some flex pipe from a hardware store and installed it with hi-tech fastener technology (ie zip-ties). Point one end towards the front of the car and the other end towards the airbox inlet. Done!
