[audio] 6.5" speakers in 6" door hole Sat, 14 February 2004 02:32 Go to next message
I drive the AE112 Corolla... they come with 6" holes. Do you know wheter I'd be able to fit 6.5" woofers in the holes?

Depth is an issue, but I already have an MDF spacer for that.

Hey all,

I haven't got the speaker yet, and I'm not sure whether I will... but basically it's a 6" diameter standard woofer (NOT sub Razz) and I'm looking at 6.5" splits instead.

If you're going to space the speaker out anyway, when you make the spacers, then it's easy to make them work with the smaller hole. The 6.5" isn't 6.5 inches all the way back!

The extra 1/2 inch... you'll never notice. Just get 6" splits.

nah, it's just that I'm looking at secondhand splits, a pair of DDDrives. Wondering whether I should get them or not.

I wouldnt buy $80 splits, in Caraudio you get what you pay for. I payed $350 for my pioneer splits and their excelent in SQ. I now realise there are a lot better out there than pioneer, for example Dynaudio, Hertz, Morel, Boston, Focal and Rainbow to name a few.

I currently have a set of JL VR-600CSi splits that retail for $379, and I'm very happy with them.

Decided against the DDDrives - similar range, I would be crossgrading not upgrading Cool

As above Razz basically, I have no need to upgrade (just the upgrading itch Very Happy) as the JLs are the cleanest, nicest speakers this side of $500.
