i havn't yet, but im thinking the prob is cause i left the chaser's speedo sensor in the auto and haven't swapped it with the cressida's speedo cable (i'll be doing this tomorrow though)

hey did you end up getting the standard tacho in the dash working???

ohh and another prob im getting is the idle it fluctuates between i think Smile about 800 to 1100 consistantly up down up down.... but then at idle i disconected the map sensor vacume hose and blocked it with my hand and the idle steadies out???? i havent driven it like this though i though it might put it into limp mode.....

and ideas?????

Speed Signal/ Tacho/ Idle Sat, 10 August 2002 01:29 Go to previous messageGo to next message
The ecu needs a speed signal to shift. You first need to connect the speedo cable and then ensure the speed signal wire from the dash is connected to the SP1 pin on the ecu. While the Chasers do have a speed sensor in the transmission this is used for the ABS and not to control shifting.

Standard tacho's are designed to operate on high voltage (>100 volts) whereas most Jap spec Toyota's output 12 volts. I am in the final stages on testing a purpose-built tach convertor circuit and these should be ready for sale in the next week or so.

As far as the idle goes, this is could be a sticky idle air control valve particularly when the idle steadied after you introduced an air leak into the system. Drive it for a day or first and if it doesn't settle it may be worth swapping it with one that you know works (as a test).

Is the MX83 a digital dash? Because you can build one tacho out of two to drive the ma70 tacho with a jza-70 back plate and electronics if it is an analog/dial type.
You gotta love the 1j! Mine just passed RTA inspection and is completely legal....wheel spin in wet at 100k's uphill, 110 km's in 2nd, 150 km's in third ....thrashing 5Lt V8's, 180SX's etc - all whilst still at 8 psi. There is just something magic about these engines!

My stock VL wheelspins at 120-130 in the wet. What are you talking about??? Thats with new Falken ZIEX tyres and only 114kw at the flywheel. I'm sure a 1JZ would have to be better than that although Commodores are silly cars in the wet.

The LSD tends to step out sideways esp in wet and esp when changing gear so I try not to do that too often....I'm just always surprised when it happens as I'm never stepping off the clutch, or even flooring it - just feeding it a little and not even trying Rolling
The funniest/strangest is when it happens just taking off from the lights .....feels a bit slower than usual....changing gear and the back steps out...as it's spinning the whole time.
Whats surprising is in third at 100km's it's only at 4,500 rpm - I guess it could just keep on going but I change into 4th to get some traction back.
