AE86 Surgy Setup Fri, 09 August 2002 00:23 Go to next message
Does anyone have pics of their surge setups in their 86.

I was thinking about doing something like this...

Fuel Tank -> VL Pump -> Surgy -> VL Pump

Hopefully I can mount all of this under the car next the fuel tank.

I'm keen to see how every else has theirs setup.

Vl pump before the surge tank? Wouldn't it be better to use a generic type efi pump from something else... Not sure about this but is the Vl a riser type pump? Don't you need sometning else to feed it (through the surgie)?

Just an idea....If you are using a VL fuel pump, why not go and have a look at the vl and see how its all sequenced tank-pump-surge etc, then just replicate that setup with your bits? makes sense to me!!!!
cheers,

dudes, there is a low pressure lift pump in the tank in a VL (according to the manual) - then the pump you will have dorikan is the external type which then feeds the injectors.

a vl pump as a lift pump would be overkill, if cheap tho, could be used to fill the surge tank.

high pressure pumps that send fuel to the engine from the surge tank do not like to suck, so using one as a lift pump to send fuel to the surge tank is a bad idea

it should go

fuel tank -> low pressure lift pump -> surge tank -> high pressure pump -> engine -> surge tank -> fuel tank

THanks for that .

Are there any lower press high lift pumps you can recommend?

Hopefully all this will fit under the car by the fuel tank. I'm hoping I don't need to mount it in the boot with the battery. That sounds too dangerous

John, dun be stupid. Look at Matts car, runs on Empty light, no surge noticeable. Just get the 7MGTE internal pump to fit in your AE86 fuel tank which you must fit one day.

And.... lemme know when you wanna wire up your trailer connector and car. Might as well do as much as we can, before paying anyone Razz.

Well I guess if you want a big arse lift pump, you could always go grab a holley blue or similiar. If you've only got something small to feed, grab one of the 70s mazda ones.
