I am currently fitting a 18rgeu into a rn30 toyota hilux which i think had a w50 column change box i dumped that and wondering wot other gearboxs have ppl used and wot gearbox was orginally mated to a 18rgeu. Also to ne1 with a slightly tricked up 18rgeu wot kinda speeds can these engines get up to with mods like cams, port n polish full rebuild etc.

18R-GEU's originally came with a P51 or W50 gearbox. You can also use a W55/57/58, but I don't know if they come in column-shift varieties.
An 18R-G with appropriate cams, head work and valve springs will safely rev to 8000rpm.

Top speed depends on a lot of factors, you can't just say an 18R-G is capable of X km/h. FWIW I've seen 200 with my stock 18R-GEU in an RA23, although it probably would have gone further.

The L50 you dumped is otherwise identical to the W50 you are looking for apart from the 1st gear ratio and the external shift levers.
W50 is the cheapest and easiest solution. Just get one from behind any 18R in an RA23->40 Celica and you'll be right.
The G52 is externally identical to a W5x box and has external levers for a column shift. You'd need the bellhousing from a 21R to make it work behind an 18R.
