Identifying diff / axles / disc brakes Sun, 15 February 2004 03:00 Go to next message
Hi all,

I've got a bit of a dilemma at present:

I have an ra23 with unidentified diff, axles, and disc brakes (rears)

I took the car to a trusted brake place in SA to be told they can't Identify the discs *I need them replaced*

now the problem they say:

They can't identify my diff, they think its from a sprinter, they can't id the axles at all -- apparently.
The rear discs that are on it - they can't ID - at all because it doesn't match ANY of the items in their suppliers catalogs.

We even tried all of the DBA stuff -- no luck..

I'm thinking that I should just scrap the current setup and go with the ever popular corona / hilux deal...unless someone can give me an idea how to ID the other stuff so I can get some discs sorted?

Any advice / help / comments /

gratefully appreciated.

Cheers all..

Mad frustrated at buying someone else's project car and spending 6k on it before doing anything at all I WANTED to do it!!Mad

Well we can't help you much with the information you've given us. Try describing your diff/brakes, or even better, take some photos!

We need photos. Clear, well illuminated pics of the diff, discs and calipers.

We need measurements of the discs (diameter, disc thickness, and disc height).

We need a width of the diff housing - hubface to hubface.

As for bearings, provided you can supply a bearing shop the inner and outer diameters of the bearing, generally they can supply you with new bearings (except for some circumstances where the bearing is a 'made to order' type, eg some Toyota IRS diff ones).

It's really not that hard.

Scrapping a whole setup is a rather drastic move, and probably unnecessary. There will be a rotor out there that can be easily made to fit.

I didn't get a chance to get my car up on the jack stands last night, so will do it tonight soon as I get home from work Smile

I'll try and post the details later too.

Thanks all for patiently waiting to help me out Smile
