Notchy W50 Tue, 17 February 2004 06:27 Go to next message
Hi all,

I just replaced my W40 with a W50.
Ive put in the recommended amount of 80W90.

The W50 is notchy into 3rd and 4th.

So i thought i would try adding 1L of the Lucas Oil Conditioner.
It seems to have made it worse??

Does this mean that the gearbox is wanting a thinner oil than 80W90?

Thanks.

I'd guess so
I'm about to use Redline Lightweight Shockproof

Its apparently very thin, but very cushy, ie, best of both worlds.
But for the price of the stuff (~$100 for enough for 1 box) you may as well
A) Put up with it
B) Find another one from a Celica/Corona/Crown/etc

It's more likely to be a problem with worn synchros rather than the oil you're using. W50's are pretty old now.
