XT130 Gearbox Issues Tue, 17 February 2004 21:28 Go to next message
Hi I have a corona 1x, and the person who owned it before me had a gearbox leak, where the oil hoses hook up to the bottom of the radiator. It's an auto box. I'll have to go see if its BW or Trimatic or w/e... But driving it.. the motor runs excellent. These motors make 1/2 decent power for pieces of crap Very Happy Im quite surprised. But, I'd rather reliability. Anyway... I can drive in First and second gears, but the box wont change up to Third. The box isnt slipping or anything, just wont change.. I hear you can have some 'bands' or something tightened in boxs? I use to haev a R31 skyline, but no bands, but apparently when I had my Vc Commodore, these could be adjusted for tighter gear shifts. Is this true? Are there any more problems that are worth looking at? I just need to get from Sydney to Adelaide with it, hahaha.. Then I'll start another conversion.. on something. Maybe a datto, or old celica 1g since there is so much documentation from you guys Very Happy I never had the time to finish my Z11/1ggte conversion, so I just sold it all for really cheap. Ah well.

Thanks
Nath

nath, no third gear could be cooked box OR it just needs adjusting/fluid

1x = starfire (missfire 4)
so the trans (auto) is a trimatic (same as your commodore 6 cylinder actually)

check the fluid first in the auto - what color is it - does it smell burnt? perhaps change it.

there is a limited amount of adjustment in these....take it to an auto place for this purpose though.

also something else that just came to mind make sure the vaccuum line that goes to it is not clogged/free - shifts are controlled via vaccuum on these.

hope this helps...
