Hi just wondering if anyone can tell me if the diff out of a 81 celica will fit straight into a 74 celica?
Also what engine does a 81 celica have and will that fit straight into a 74 celica also?

i believe it is a close fit, but not exact. if you are looking at this as an upgrade option then forget it, as i think they are both t-series and the brakes on the 81 are not significantly better. that is unless you find a gt model with lsd in which case the upgrade is well worth it

this thread is what i was thinking of, is for ra23 but still has the relevant points.

and also the engine is an R series, so no it will not fit straight in and there is not really much point in adapting it either with the high availability of t series motors

It's just that i've been offered a 81 for $50 and the diff in my 74 is very noisy so i was thinking of grabbing the car and swapping the diffs...just to loose the noise...not as upgrade or anything..also thinking of swapping engines if it's not too hard.. ie: very easy.. Smile

If you're just swapping the diff centre, yes it is a straight swap. If you're talking about the whole axle, it's different.
