Hi just wondering if anyone can tell me if the diff out of a 81 celica will fit straight into a 74 celica?
Also what engine does a 81 celica have and will that fit straight into a 74 celica also? Thank you

yeah i posted there first but i thought i'd post here as well cod i'm in adelaide and thought it might be easier to chat to locals about what's what...i also just said in the other post: It's just that i've been offered a 81 for $50 and the diff in my 74 is very noisy so i was thinking of grabbing the car and swapping the diffs...just to loose the noise...not as upgrade or anything..also thinking of swapping engines if it's not too hard.. ie: very easy.. Ok mate your '74 if its a TA22 will have a 2T series 1600 motor, and T50 gearbox, and the 81 will be an ra40/45, with an 18R series 2000 motor and W50 gearbox. They will not bolt in and out into eachother.
As for the diffs, they are very closely related as far as i know, being both T292 diffs or very similar, but the mounting points may differ slightly and trackwidth could also be slightly wider.. not to mention youd need to check whether the tailshaft will link up correctly..
