ST162 speedo cable Thu, 19 February 2004 01:19 Go to next message
It would appear the speedo cable on my st162 (manual gearbox) has broken, but I'm having trouble removing it so I can take it to some guys to make a new one.

There is no mention of speedo cable removal in the manual I have for the car.

Anyone know an easy procedure that doesn't require me taking half the car apart?

I can't seem to just pull the speedo cable out because it's broken and I can only get the end bit out.

That depends......

Which half is broken the top half (into the guage) or the bottom half (into the gearbox).

Bottom bit - about two inches has broken off.
I've already got tonnes of the dash out anyway whilst I was doing speaker stuffs.

wierd... so 2" of it has broken off and is stuck in the gearbox, I can't say I ever had a problem getting it out, it just required careful manouvering. is't it just held with a surclip? pretty sure mine was....... Confused

Well, two inches of the inner cable has broken off, and I need to replace it. I can get the cable disconnected from the gearbox (it's held on by some kind of threaded male/female connector thing) but I can't get the inner cable out of it's sheath.

Yeah - it's a real effing pain in the arse...

I'm working on it - thinking - gee this would be *alot* easier if I took the gearbox off, I wonder how hard that would be...hmmm Smile

Ta-da.

I ended up just taking the whole thing out no problems. As you can see, the little end bit is broken in two...
