	Hey

Ive completed my 4age conversion into my sprinter...

i've turned the car on, all starts, reving at around 1200rpm,

I notice steam like vapour coming off the extractors, and they get extremly hot after only 30 seconds of running the engine,

the extractors were from anthony kellam and do have some sort of black high temp coat on them,

but i don't think the exhaust manifold is supposed to get so hot sooo soo quickly, like i'm running rich or or very lean, something like that....

mine do this also, prolly because they are covered in black paint non heatproof.

my 22 has a 4age in it FWIW - and my extractors get VERY hot VERY VERY quick. i'd consider this normal.

So the extractors gettng very hot very quickly is normal

does yours still steam up, or just at the start when you got the extractors on and started the car etc etc, after you put the engine in .... after a few days of driving the car it still does it....

I'd say this is normal. The steam etc could just be dust burning off, paint, gasket goo etc.

Now i've even got a larger problem...

after idling and letting the car get to normal operating temperature...

i true to press the throttle down it gets to around 2500-3000rpm then dies... it doesn't stall but feels like its not letting it rev,

	Have you checked TPS?
Also I assume you've set timing etc?

Did you check timing with the test connector bridged?

which are the ones that need to be briged, at the ecu....

OK its got something to do with my TPS...

as on my engine loom, there is a connector to the IDL in the ecu, which goes to the TPS, this has a plug on it to disconnect and to connect, when i disconnect it the engine runs smoother than anything, but idles at 1500rpm, when i had this IDL connected it was dieing at 3000rpm etc etc...

i need to find out what this IDL does,

i don't know why my loom has a connector on it, i bought the engine from a guy who was changing to a 20v motor... as it was in a Clubmen.... and so it does rev perfectly but it idles to high, but that could be also possibly cause i don't have my oxygen sensor hooked up, I'm not sure...

any help

I think IDL is for closed throttle position.

I have no idea why someone would put a plug on this to disconnect it..

Maybe the TPS is stuffed? Check each wire make sure they are the correct way around.

PIN	COLOUR	FUNCTION
VTA	Red	Variable Signal
IDL	Blue	Closed throttle signal
E2	Brown	Earth
VCC	Yellow (Or Blue/Red)	+5 DC

And.. having the O2 sensor disconnected wont have any ill effects on it really.. Just wont go into closed loop.

	I'll check that now,

the revs do actually drop after a few minutes to 900rpm, so thats not a problem

but i do want to get the TPS actaully working... I'll try to tune it and see if it works and all. but i'm not sure what i can do, maybe just get another 100kw TPS from someone..
