RA60 21R-C Manual Conversion Fri, 20 February 2004 06:49 Go to next message
Hi, i'm new and was wondering about how much it probably costs to get an automatic changed to a manual in an RA60 Celica?

I wonder as I want to buy an XT 2.0 with an auto but the auto has had it.

The owners said about 250-400 for the gearbox and another 200 for installation (would this include flywheel, master/slave cylinders, clutch, hydraulics and assorted other items?

Thanks

It depends on
A) How cheap you can get the required parts
B) Whether you get new parts instead of 2nd hand (clutchwise)
C) If you have the capability of doing it yourself

It may be cheaper in the end to buy a wrecked RA60 manual from the paper and strip that for parts

Or just buy a manual RA60 in the first place! It's not like they're uncommon...

We've had this discussion before Norbie, but lets say the car he is looking at has been owned by seniors since new, but they optioned auto, interior is perfected, garaged and polished since day one. Don't let something like this slip through your hands. I know thats the extreme end of the scale.

But... as you say, if its just a common standard RA60, get a manual one.

Its your decision dude, is THAT exact car with the effort, or can you find a manual one in the same condition for the same price? much easier option.

I hear ya CrUZsida.

I couldn't find a decent manual Soarer during my 5 month search. Ended up buying the nicest & newest one I could find, then (finally) converting it to manual myself. I'm much happier this way, cos now I have a 5-speed Soarer 5 years newer than all the other ones I looked at and in much better (virtually perfect) condition.

I might just get a replacement auto put in for now (350 for trans, 200 for install although i could probably stick iti in myself) then in a few years put a 3T-GTEU in with a manual.
