Need help from Celica ST184 owner in Sydney Fri, 20 February 2004 08:13 Go to next message
I'm planning a V6 engine swap with my Caldina.
I have found a guy in the states who has done the same swap with his ST184 Celica.

He had bonnet clearance problems & had to lower the engine.
I'm not sure if I'm going to have the same issues, but would like to check.

What I need is to be able to measure some underbonnet clearances.
Nothing will need to be removed, just need to check crossmember to bonnet distances, plus engine mounts.

Must be a FWD, as the GT4 has different crossmembers.

I will travel to you.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers.

I looked into the 3S-GTE today by going round a few importers.
Problem is my is a 96 model, so to get it legal would require either a Celica ST205, late SW20 MR20 , or Caldina ST215 3S. (Plus I don't want to put an older motor in).
These cost at least $4000 (or $6000 if you shop at SSS), whereas I could get an '01 1MZ with wiring for less than $2000.

I'm still trying to see if a GT4 box will fit the V6 (the problem is going to be the rear exhaust).
If I go 4wd (which I want to do) this will probably add another $1000, plus a GT4 box, plus a 4wd fuel tank (which looks like I'll have to get from NZ).

I'd like to get an ST205 box, but this can prolly wait till funds allow.

I've also heard of someone turbo'ing the 1MZ, so that would be really sweet.
