MA70 front hubs onto TA22/RA23 struts? Fri, 20 February 2004 11:20 Go to next message
I'm looking to update the braking on the TA22 I'm doing up and I was thinking about using the braking setup off the MA70 Supra. Does anyone know if the front hubs can be grafted onto either TA22 or RA23 struts? Any and all suggestions welcome.

They do not share the same bearing and I think have different spindles, MA70 Supra ones should be bigger, so I think it won't fit...

well the centre hole on the ta22 celica is 64mm, with the supras being 60mm (from DBA catalog)

its not just the hub that matters though dude you have to get a caliper and the right spacing to the disc (and a disc to suit) for this all to work.

Damn. I was hoping that the entire hub, rotor, caliper setup could be transplanted from one strut to the other. I'm looking for a bolt up brake upgrade as I'm no mechanic and I'm on a pretty steep learning curve. I'd seen the thread about commodore parts on MA61 struts and in one of the diagrams it showed the whole braking system being held on by a bracket with two bolts at the bottom of the strut. I guess a bit more homework is in order Confused

MA61 hubs are a direct bolt on for RA23 struts. Not as big as MA70 brakes but still a good upgrade!

How much difference is there between the ma61 and ra40 forn brake setup. Might be a good option there and they are easily found.

Sweet. I'll look into the MA61 brake upgrade with the RA23 struts. Just to confirm, the RA23 struts are a direct bolt in for the TA22, aren't they? Anything has to be bigger than the TA22 brake setup Razz

RA23 struts aren't quite a direct bolt in. Do a search, this has been discussed many times.

The RA6x/MA6x brakes are a significant upgrade over the RA23/28/40 brakes. The diameter is slightly larger but the big difference is they're ventilated rotors as opposed to solid. The caliper is also larger with more pad area. They will comfortably fit inside a 14" rim which is important to those of us who have 14" wheels and don't wish to upgrade!

For anyone interested, i have an article in ZOOM magazine, where they fit commodore rotors to RA40 struts, it goes on to say that its very easy to do, because they use similar wheel bearings. I checked the wheel bearing kits at work and the actual bearings are the same, its just the hub seals that are different

which zoom was that rotorace? I want some serious brakes for my AE-86 sprinter, I am sure that the fitment of struts to an 86 wouldnt be all that different than to a Ta22. Also these hub seals what are they?

Hey rotorace, I'm really interested in this supposedly easy brake upgrade, Can you get me details of it or the zoom issue??
