my clutch and custom stuff for an r154? Sat, 21 February 2004 03:38 Go to next message
Ive got an 11" clutch and all accs for a complete manual conversion on my ma61. From w58 to 302 motor.

My bellhousing is drilled for both r154 and w58. So im wondering if the clutch and the rest will fit on an r154? I.e i can change boxes without getting new clutch/ flywheel etc??

Also i know its been asked a million times, but what mods do i need to do to the tailshaft in the ma61?

CLG can you help here?

Thanks
Blake.

as long as the input shafts of both boxes are same OD and have same number of splines, then they should bolt up without requiring change?

other point of difference 'might' (displaying ignorance of both boxes here) be how the input shaft bearing is held in and the tube (that carries the throw-out bearing) is attached to it (e.g. if it's a different OD on that pipe, a new bearing will be requried to mate with clutch fingers and fit the different pipe.

btw: didya get to RedBank? if so, is your sunburn 2nd or 3rd degree?

sunday? jeez, this heat's getting to me... i think i'll stay in the shade and continue re-assembly....

i think throw-out bearings are reasonably priced - considering they're a sealed item.

if your lucky, they'll be identical so no trauma likely at all, but... if it's different spline count, then new clutch as well...

the link at the of the technical section had a bit on W* gearboxs versus R154 but i didn't see anything related to input shaft.

seeing as so many people suggest them as a repalcement when powering-up, i'd say that basic engineering stuff like input shaft, mount points, output-shaft yolks etc are identical.

yes, the two gearboxes have the same spline and input shaft diameter!
