7MGTE water noise

I was just wondering if anyone else with a 7M series engine had noticed a noise that I can only describe as a water feature. It sounds exactly like one of those little fountains you can buy for your living room. It's supposed to relax you, but in this case it just makes me nervous
I think it makes the noise constantly (while the engine is running), but it's fairly quiet - so I can only really hear it at idle.
The reason it makes me nervous is that I am familiar with the 7MGTE's appetite for head gasgets, and it sounds to me like a bubble in the coolant system. From inside the cabin, it sounds VERY close to the firewall - my guess would be around 5th or 6th cylinder.
Does anyone else get this noise and is it normal? Is there any way to shut it up!?

could it be the heater core? Flush it out with a hose...see if its blocked or something?
You'd know if your car was boiling. i.e it wouldnt sit at normal on the temp gauge!

You have ray's red supra don't you!
Make sure you don't blow the HG on that baby!
I would start with a coolant flush tomorrow to get any air out of the cooling system.

in doing that, dont forget to "burp" the cooling system. Ask if you dont know what that means!

"burping" the cooling system? Is that anything like the Nissan RB series engines, where you have to release the little bolt at the back of the inlet manifold to let the air bubble out?
And it's definitely not boiling. I've heard that before It's a quiet little trickling noise.
And yes, I have Ray's red supra
As for the heater core - is that the one all smooshed up under the dash that's a real nightmare to get to?

<SIGH>
I guess I'll go grovelling under the dash then.
And does this mean that no-one else has this noise? That makes me kinda worried... Though I mentioned it to Ray and he said she's always done it. I guess it can't be that bad if it's lasted 3 years.

nono you dont need to get into the dash.
You need to take the hoses off at the firewall going into the core and stick a hose through them!
If you need a pic of the ones let me know.

This is actually quite common, and contrary to popular belief does not always mean the head gasket is toast.
I had gurgling behind the dash on my old 7M... and it sure as shit didn't have a blown head gasket!

I think it's common with Supras in general; my MA61 used to do this when I got air in the coolant system. The fix was simple, just let the engine warm up with the radiator cap off; as soon as the thermostat opens all the air gets pushed out.

Just to throw a spanner in the works, I have a MX83 Cres that did the same with the 7MG. The heater core was leaking and letting air into the system any time that it stood still. (usually over night)
While I was doing my 1JZ conversion, I took the oportunity to remove the dash and core to resolder the end tanks. (they were very average)
The holes were extremely small, so may be hard to detect without pulling the whole thing apart.
It's a fair sized job in the MX but I can't really speak for the Supra.

My old MZ20 used to make that noise aswell, I'm sure it wasnt when the HG blew, cause it still did it when the MHG and everything else went in, and the heater never worked.

Do you guys think it's likely to cause problems if I leave it? If it's a bubble in the heater core for instance - will that be a problem? Of should I bite the bullet and pull the whole damn thing apart?
