What would be better: 90-92 SECA SX or 87-90 SX Celica

Ey all,
Put it simply i'm after one of these cars, but I am unsure of which would be a better car.
My questions are:
What will be faster in a drag?
What will be faster (better) around courners?
What will be more reliable asuming both are looked after the same?
Genarally whats the better car?
Thanx very much for any help you may be able to give me.

ST184 has a very uninspiring 2.2ltr 5S-FE engine.
The ST162 however has a 2.0ltr 3S-GE that apparently goes much harder.
smt_007, I may be wrong but as I understand it the Seca comes standard with a 4A-GE 16 valve with around 100kw.
doobs, my advice to you would be get the money together and go out to car yards and test drive the two, and find some people who have the car in a similar mod state to how you will want it, then take that car for a spin (if you can).
In theory the ST162 will be a little more powerfull than the AE93 SECA, but the SECA will cost a little less to run as it's lighter and has less displacement.

Go for the celica dude, its a beauty to drive. Been told by a mate who owns a silvia (CA18DE) that mine feels much faster and handles a ton better.

The Seca i'm looking for has the 100kw 16v 4a-ge in it. I would be getting a celica with a 3s-ge.
I drove a celica with a 3s-ge yesterday, but it was the ST model so it had only 86kw, but it still went very well.
Visually/features the celica is a far better car, but all those electrics could fail :S
Are the celicas as reliable as a rolla?

Get the Celica, the Rolla deep down will always be a shopping trolley first and foremost Have a search, this topic was discussed not that long ago.
Oh, and a ST would have a 3SFE.

Since the st is a 3sfe, you will be very surprised when you drive a sx celica with a 3sge, a 3sfe revs nicely to 5500rpm and a 3sge revs to 7000rpm .

The ST I drove yesterday had a 3s-ge in it, I know that cause it was in big letters down the side of the engine. Does that mean that the engine was not ment to be in that car? and that it was the 103kw engine?

and the seca revs nicely to 7800rpm
seriously take both for a test drive and then decide for yourself, i was considering both cars when i bought my seca sx, and for me the seca was the car for me, cheaper to fix, cheaper insurance, easy to run, more reliable and i loved how rev happy the 4age is

depends on what you like really.
the 3sge is a very nice motor indeed so is a 4age 100kw
162s are pretty fat from what i remember, where is a rolla is lighter,
all things to cosider i guess.. but everyone is right when they say to go and test drive something, find out what you feel more comfy in. then buy that!

LOL....
I had a nice long read..
I'd have to put a vote down for the corolla sx here...
LOL...
The corolla SX Seca are good cars if u want to rev, but u have to wait a bit to get the serious power in these things... comfort it pretty nice, the interior is pretty nice....
But yeah The reason I reckon the celica SX is still the right option for me is this:
The celica SX is more smooth, U don't have to work it so hard to get the performance, the seating position is nice and low, and u really do feel like ur driving a sports car, The handling is still pretty impressive even with the state that the shocks would be like these days, But as many people do this, they replace the Shocks, and Springs, And add a rear sway bar (this will make the back of the car hold a better line, and also oversteer is added to the choice of driving techniques if u know how lol!) The 1985-1989 Celica SX was one of the best handling Front wheel drive cars in its time...
Max power is reached at 6000rpm, and a few mods like Cold air intake, exhaust and extrators (plus suspension) would make for one awesome car....
Fuel economy is very good too.. It might not be the same as a 1.6, but u don't have to work it (or rev it) as much to get the power..
Thats just my view..
I still love the corolla sx as a great little car, But I find the celica sx just brings out a bit more style..
The 3sge is just like a bigger sister version of the 4age, Fair bit more torque too....
Did i mention Pop up lights???
This has been 60 Minutes with Adrian DeBono
By the Way Rob, U guys thought me sooo much......
Thanx again u guys...
The celica st-162s don't weigh much at all... Its about 1200kgs ish... the corolla seca is about 1080kgs
But remember u've got an engine that will accomadate the weight of the car well...
FWD CELICA sent me some Wheels magazines Reviews on the celica sx, I'll post em up at some stage for all to see... It was sooo good in its time that they actually compared it to the likes of the toyota supra, Holden Piazzo, Nissan 300zx, and a couple of other cars...
Damn good cars in other words,
Did i mention decently priced?
Regards
Adrian

i'm leaning towards the celica, it just looks so nice and goes very well. I wont buy a celica until i drive a rolla sx, but i think the celica has won me. It has better features and looks much nicer

U know the Celica is clearly the winner, No matter what happens it will always be a clear winner,
go for a drive in the corolla sx, But yeah u'll see that the celica has the class of a sports car, u've got a pretty damn good deal for ur money, corolla sx are usually about $1500-$2000 more.....
