aw11 s/c stero install Tue, 24 February 2004 02:04 Go to next message
well im looking for a bit more bass in my aw11, recently picked up a nice set of infinity 4ways 6" 4" tweeder + crossover . but!

were can i put a sub prob a 10" boston acustics and the box dosnt need to be that big, but i dont know how id go with a 6-8" sub i love the bass!!!

id rather put it in the front of the car were the spare tyre is.

anyone done it? if so do they have the measurements that can be made ?

id say dont even bother Sad

ive looked at juse about everything i can think of to get osme real bass in the aw11.

ive gone for a pair of 4" earthquake splits mounted in the dash in the original locations. they sound prety nice.. not as rich as the setup ive got in the celica but defianlty good if you dont listen to dance/trace.

the only option i could really find that would work and give some better bass was to cut out the door pockets and mound a fibreglass/mdf pod in there and mount a 6" driver but its really a lot of stuffing around.

also a thought get a deck that has a tilting face as the mount in the dash is fairly low and a little hard to see if not tilted.. the alpine motorised face deck looks good in there Smile

oh and as far as getting a sub in there... dont like your chances... my only thoguht was a tiny.. ier 6-8" number mounted in a box at the bottom on the pasenger seat in the small gap behind the back of the seat and the firewall but seemed like it'd be a shade too small to really work well.

well ive build fibreglass pods by, so 6" kicks are going on either side. 4" in dash and then tweeders aswell

im thinking in the front of the car near the spare tyre mayb a small wooder removable box with fibreglass sourand or just put some plastic sheeting over it and , paste it with fibreglass to get a mold ?

you could go for the subs in the frunk but youd be sacrificing the spare and no doubt lightening an already light front end... id question how good the sound quality would be as well..

but 6" woofers in the door would be the best options as far as good sound but a really nice set of 4" numebrs in the dash will do quite a good job..

Ive got 4" speakers in the front and up behind your head on either side, awsome sound, but no base. I was thinking a 4 channel amp and a 8 inch sub mounted in near the front dash somewhere? i duno.

Freak is 147db enough bass for a AW11? Evil or Very Mad with great sound quality to match. Very Happy

i have 2 12" subs in my frunk, 5 1/4" in kicks, 6 1/2" in doors, tweets on dash, 6x9" behind seats.
toof i dunno how a good qaulity sub box and sub/s will make the front end lighter? deffinately made mine heavier and a lot better to drive. Smile

you can fit 8 or 10" subs behind each seat in enclosures if you wanted, all depends on if you want to lose a little leg room with the 10's though.

there are pics of it all here.

or you could make a removable bandpass box like my first one.

Remember guys, the box size doesnt have to be that huge, just make a small box, which fits the woofer, and stuff it with a whole heap of dacron. This makes the air more dense i think and thus the sense of a bigger box. Just a thought

more if your removing the spare/tool kit, if your speaker/box setup is heavier or equal then you wouldnt be making it lighter but if you were to remove them and replace with something lighter.....

When I took my AW to the stereo dudes they said... get a towbar and a trailer and put the speakers in that cause there is no space for bass in a AW11. Laughing
That being said... I have 2 boxes with 10 inch subs at 45 degree angles behind each seat. They are set up to easily unplug if I have a passenger and nned to take my roofs out... I just leave one of them at home.
4 inch splits in the dash and the other ones behind your head I have removed.
I am 190cm so it is a tight fit for me in an aw11... my seats still go all the way back with a bit of carefull box design.
