New member, new Corolla, Tyre/Wheel Question

Hi everyone,
I used to belong to another board for my old car and found it useful but I just bought a 2003 ZZE122 Corolla. I am quite impressed. It has 30K Kms on it and is a bog standard ascent.
My question is:
It comes standard with 175 70 R14 wheels and factory tyres. At 30K kms they still have plenty of tread (on the rears but I rotated them) but I find them a bit noisy and never liked hubcaps (fall off, look crappy etc). I see the corolla also comes with 195 65 R15 alloys in higer models and I am sure people have put on 16's and 17's and such.
Does anyone have any experience with upgrading to the wider rubber and any recommendations for tyre/rim brands? Has anyone got a set of 15's off theirs that they upgraded? I am not really interrested in really low profile high chrome wheels so would the 15's make a difference?
Thanks for any advice you can give.

Hi & welcome I've got a 2003 Conquest sedan with the factory 6-spoke alloys...
Do they make a difference to ride & handling? YES!!! Compared to the Ascent's I have driven I have noticed less road noise & much more grip from the 15's.
Is it worth the upgrade? Depends what you want from the car & how much you're willing to spend. As smt_007 has suggested you might want to check the Sportivo range but at a guess I would say they'd be kinda expensive...
