AE86 - 4AGE Conversion: What to expect ?
|

I have an idea of swapping my current engine for the 4AGE, but i am completely blank on what to expect,
Like i know the engine gets swapped but WHAT happens next, do i have to change anything else to support the new engine eg all that wheel based stuff, i don't know like CV joints and CV boot, suspension, and whatever else, and the gearbox, does that stay
Can anyone refer me to someone whos done this,
Any info would be greatly appreciated
Thanx

Hey dude, if it's an ae86 you've got with a 4ac, it's rather easy.
Cos the engines have the same block (except for internals) so for putting the engine in, take out the old bolt in the new.
it also depends if you're using a fwd engine or a rwd engine.
and oh yeah, you'll need some custom made extractors.. if you're in Melbourne, Unique exhaust will make up some mandrel bent ones, 4-1 extractors, with the pipes going into the exhaust in the same order as the firing order for $450 or so.
then you have the next thing to expect, fun

you don't _need_ the extractors, but try finding a rear wheel drive manifold .. Good luck! and if you're going to have something custom made, then why the hell not extractors? they're for fuel econamy! honnestly officer!

i know theres no CV's... i dont want to sound insulting but i think that maybe people who dont know the basics of what is or isnt in the engine bay should perhaps not tackle sometime like an engine conversion even if it is a comparatively easy one.

The whole point is to learn,
hey so i'm an idiot when it comes to rear wheel drive cars but give me a FWD and i'll be ok
I'm not as lucky as you guys to have the hands on experience or friends to tell me how this stuff works,
The only reason i know about FWD is caz i got an AE92 and i've had my ups and downs,
Now i want to know more about a diff area hence an engine conversion would be an excellent start plus more

yeah RWD's are much easier, I don't really know how the FWD setup works, and really I don't care hehe
and the best way to learn is to try, there are enough people on here to help you through any hastles.
