Took my car to the mechanics today to get it check out because of my running rich prob. Talking and shit he goes to me something to do with the timming has been played around with to make the car go harder. Do you get much of a gain when this has been done?

it depends on what fuel compression and cams you are running.
there is a range of optimum spark advance "timing" for a given set of engine conditions. by changing the timing you alter the peak combustion pressure in the cylinder, and at what crank degrees that occurs. depending on your setup, you may be able to get a bit more power and response from altering timing, but it depends how 'off' the initial timing was.
try looking up timing on google and howstuffworks. sounds like you need a basic intro into how timing affects a motor. lucky for you there are a huge number of sites on the net dealing with this..
will just take a few minutes of your time
good luck.
