Tailshaft Loop - Toynats

Hi all, just wanted to have a quick chat about tailshaft loops in preperation for Toynats.
If you have a 2 piece tailshaft does that mean you need 2 tailshaft loops? My thinking is it can either break at the front joke, or the uni in the middle?
Do you normally purchase the loop and have it welded in, or do shops custom make them to suit?
Thanks
Joel

i think that last year, most of us came to the conclusion that if you have one loop near the front uni, then that'll do - that's all that the ANDRA rules required.
I dunno, i got away without one last year - stock car.
I think jason said he could make some loops pretty cheap last year too.

Yeah I only had a single tailshaft loop with a 2-piece shaft and they let me race.
That reminds me, I'd better put it back in before April!

It says in the Toynat registration form that the tailshaft loop must be no more than 6" from the front uni joint. Thats all I know!

The loop also has to be a full 360 degree ring that the shaft goes through.
I'll jump under my car tomorrow arvo & snap a pic of mine.
I guess it might not apply in live axle setups, but in my brothers IRS cressida I don't see the point at all in having a loop on the 2 piece shaft. The front shaft only has 1 uni at the front, so, if this or the yoke snaps the centre bearing will support the shaft (although I guess if it's spinning real fast it might be able to bend the support bearing bracket & flick down, in which case it would hardly vault the car as it's not levering from the diff). And the rear shaft goes through the diff crossmember, so it can't fall if it breaks.
Also with the tailshaft the front uni (& yoke) is from the chaser the motor & gearbox came from, & is much bigger than the 2 standard cressida unis on the rear shaft, which also has a rubber vibration dampner seperating the front of the rear shaft & the rear of the rear shaft (if you know what I mean) that will break way before the front shaft or uni ever will.
I doubt I'd be able to explain all that to the ANDRA officials though.

As per ANDRA rules, tailshaft must be 360 degrees, constructed of minimum 3mm thick steel, 50mm wide, and placed within 6" of the front universal joint.
There are multifit ones available from most automotive stores.
