Hi People,
I am considering buying a Rt104 Auto Corona.
The guy reckons the Radiator redlines it,but stays at the same position sort of quickly-ish.
Any idea's as to the problem & I need some answers in regards to this problem.
Also, what else do I need to check out on this car.
All seem's well,But some fairly common problems to watch for & how to fix them would be greatly appreciated.
Steve

Watch for rust, most of them are full of it.
And yes, most of what you just said makes no sense.

Hi Steve.
Rust... everywhere.
Door corners, under the front & rear windows, sill just behind the front wheels, body just behind rear wheels.
Same spots for all 70's toyotas

In regards to the radiator,I'll try & clarify the problem.
From what the guy told me,but don't quote me on this,is that the radiator gets up to the red line fairly quickly, but then it stays in the same position.
Doe's this make it any clearer for people?
That's from what I can make out from what the guy told me.
Doe's anybody have any thought's on what the problem could be then & a possible answer?
Steve.

Goes to red then stays could be:
Bad thermostat.
Bad temp sensor.
Bad temp gague.

I bet my money its 1 of two things. Its either only running water which in a old car like that is likely and it turns to mud and blocks the radiator. Very common as i see it every day or he has let it get hot to many times and has cooked the head. Also see that very often. Get someone to dump the water and high pressure flush it and do a head test on it before buying if possible. Or just offer him a smaller amount to leave yaself some money for the obvious repairs it will need. But start with a radiator cleanout and high pressure flush.

Seriously dude, RT104s are everywhere and cost nothing. Find another that is mechanically sound - this one sounds like headaches and money.
