if you don't see it it doesn't exist?

An aquaintance of mine believes that a 7000rpm redline from the factory is a load of crap, only because he thinks the highest redline was on his escort a measly 6,500rpm. The only part that gives me a little chuckly is that he thinks himself to be a car enthusiast . I know toyota's have high redlines but from the factory what is the highest redline on a production motor?
I'm thinking s2000 maybe?
help me out so next time I see him I can laugh after I point out my 3sge goes to 7200 without a problem

So, anything under what... $300,000AUD?
The Celica ZR has 140kW @ 7600rpm. That's not even it's redline, just its power band. But you may be right, the Honda S2000 has 176 kW @ 8,300 rpm.

Plenty of old Fiat's have ridiculously high redlines, even way back in the 60's it was common to see the redline past the 7000 mark. 6500 is nothing!

My missus's Mazda Eunos 30X has a 1.8 V6 Quadcam motor, and it develops 108kW at 7,500 rpm and the redline is 7,800.
It is a sweet little motor and loves to rev , but has bugger all below 4,000 rpm

LOL, my 1969 corolla has a redline of 6500 or 6750 on the tach :0
highest possible? i think you'll find that 19000rpm is within the 'allowable' piston speeds.... old CBR250's had redline at 19000 or 19500..... power on a mates one was from about 13 or 14K up
same goes for F1 cars, they have very short stroke (V10, 3L) so the piston speeds are not ridiculous, 'only' around 23m/s

Well I think we have solved the issue of cars redlining over 7000rpm from the factory. In short, plenty do. The long answer is most V8s don't/can't, but most 4s do/can.

i've heard of a relatively stock 1UZ revving to 8500rpm quite easily
wasnt making much useable power though

erm ...
Nim ...
gotta correct ya dude ..
2 351 powered falcons ..
one XW , 11 second drag motor - 8000RPM and climbing
Screamer + a ball tearer
More sedate XB coupe mild 351 - 13 ish second car - 7200 RPM
Witnessed both
had to realign eyeballs after both runs..
Dont think v8's cant rev - they just develop max torque lower in the rev range ..

the RX-8 can rev to 9k too.
my ZXR250 has 19k redline also.
from what i can see, the higher the capacity, the lower the redline they will have.
a CBR250 has 19k redline, but a CBR900 will have only around 10k redline.
and for a truck, heard that they have 3k redline. never seen one though.

Stu, is that stock? I don't think it is. I'm talking production cars under about $200,000. Once you get into modified cars or race cars all the rules change.

for the 1uz - the mark is pretty much spot on i believe
fior the 351's the first one isnt stock ( xw )- its just insane pushrod power ..
the XB has been warmed up a bit - but still ran to 6500 rpm all day every day with no obvious problems previous to modifications..
jags pretty much on the money - long bore/stroke - low revs - shorter strokes like the 1uz - bigger revs

I think if a factory wanted to produce a car that revved high they could do it quite easily with the technology these days. Its just not economically viable for a street car in two ways. 1. whats the point?
2. it would cost too much.
You would be paying $30,000 for a hyundai excel that revs to 20000 (obviously exaggerated so don't be giving me shit).
Plus whole new gearboxes would need to be manufactured as well.

actually the S2000 redlines at 9200rpm - but the stock RX8 13B (13C...? ) has been tested to 10,500 with no 'ill effects' as mazda put it.
the rotors are incredibly light compared to the old design, and the new side port exhausts are actually bigger than the old peripheral exhaust ports.
however, comparing rotors and fours is like comparing apples and oranges.
highest revving four - Honda S2000 for sure. no one else has come close to 9200rpm from a factory engine with 11.1:1 CR.

I thought the reason rotors could rev higher was becasue there's no up and down motion?
