Hey mate, your car looks really nice. I also have a TA22 with the same colour paint, but with white on brown interior. Hey what would you call the colour of your paint as i've had mixed opinions?

hey thanks for the feedback. about the colour i am not sure what it is exactly cause i bought it like that. i would call it a metallic purple in 2 pak paint. i am trying to find out what it is cause i want to respray it cause it is faded on the other side. i might just have to get them to match the colour.

nice to see you've done some work on it
7mgtema71, i reckon another colour that is similar, although a little darker is the purple used by holden, eventually when i get another TA22 i'll be doing it in that colour.

Yeah, after owning my car for almost 6 years, the colour has grown on me, but i just could never put my finger on the colour as it's too red, yet not enough purple to be called purple and it's the original colour. I have seen a few other examples driving around with same colour as mine which is similar to Schmitt's colour, just not as nice.

hey 7mgtema71 i was the same about the colour. when i am going to repaint it i had wanted to change the colour but now it has grown on me. also the other good thing about it is that there arent that many ta22 out there with this colour.
hey finney glad you like it. very soon i am repainting it in the same colour, i am nearly finished saving now. then i have to work on the interior cause at the moment the engine is fine until i get off my green P's. also when you had the car did you do any work to the engine or is it as you bought it.

Hey Schmitt,
Gee, when i bought the car, a little lady was driving it and it was pretty clean buy, but in six years or so it has seen other variants of its not so familiar driving style and therefore a treatment of suspension was required and i plunged out the old 2T and dropped in a fresh 2TGEU. I didn't appreciate the little 50mm throttle body though so i sourced out and installed four (quad 50mm throttle bodies) and with the aid of 3-dimensional tuning by Delco, it's now a neat little package, besides the dents it now inherits from my youngers years of driving.

when i had it i did nothing but servicing on the engine aside from the extractors and 2" exhaust. I vaguely remember the previous guy saying that the head gasket had been done, if the case was that the head gasket had gone then the head would have been shaved a little but really its just a stock engine. After driving a 2TGEU i was quite surprised as my old TA22/2T seemed to kill the 2TGEU.... dunno why, just seemed to have more balls
i'll never forget the look on an excel drivers face when he was chopped by this old car with a massive exhaust hahahaha he was obviously trying to impress his g/f but i beat him in 4th from 60-100 hahahha other than that no one ever tried to take it on. although there were quite a few older people who commented on it which i thought was pretty cool.

Shit Finney, sorry mate ax i thought he was refering to me and after a closer review of Schmitt's post i can clearly see he was asking about your car.
I can completely relate you what Finney is saying though. I once test drove an 18RG ina RA28 running twin carbs, etc and i swear my (at the time) recently rebuilt to original spec 2tg in my TA22, also running twin carbs went twice as hard. Mind you the poor old 18rg most likely would bennfit from a rebuild, but the point i'm pushing is most older motors are shockers unless very well maintained.

ok finney i was just wondering cause the rego papers i got off you say that it is an 1800cc and i was wondering if was true or a miss type. it would explain the extra go it has. my mate has a ta22 with stock 2t except for extractors and sports exhaust and my car is a fair bit quicker than his in the top end in any gear after bout 4500 and especially climbing hills. just wondering what you knew about it.
P.S i am glad you sold it.

hey magicmitch the guages were stock when i got the car.after alot of debating about how to do the guages i decided to try and do them myself as i had a spare set anyway. all i did was to remove the guages from the car and pull the face out (speedo and tacho). i then sprayed them white and used a black paint marker (one of those paint texta's) to do the numbers cause they are raised up you just do across the top. the other guages were alot harder to do. with the warning light one tape up the lenses and just spray it white. with the fuel and temp ones the part that says fuel/temp i just sprayed them white and made a template for the words and sprayed black. with the actual gauge part i used photographic paper and made a sticker of the right scale that would cover that entire part. the hardest part about that is getting it the right size and glueing it in the right place so the needle goes in the right place. if you want a copy of the stickers i will send you the template so you can print them out.
i think they turned out very well. the trick is to take your time.

saw the car yesterday.... dayum its going harder than before, i still can't get over those massive chirps from the rear treads, esp since it's stil the 2T
heres that bodywork info i got off bigworm...
Bigworm | G'day mate, let me just say that doing it all over again is not something I'd like to do too soon (although with the job I did it'll need it), and if I do do it again I'll be outsourcing alot of it.
But, at the same time, I don't regret doing it, I learned heaps & ended up with a very unique car.
The main thing I learned was to do a job properly the first time. But this also really means (reasonably) big bucks. I started out by stripping the car fairly bare, apart from dash & suspension, and then simply attacking any rust or suspected rust, and once you start uncovering it it's usually spread quite far. My car wasn't really all that bad to begin with, but it had it's fair share. I cut it all out or grinded it back, & welded in bits of replacement sheet steel, grinded it back & bogged it up. Water gets through bog (& primer) so cover it up.
Then the panels I rubbed back with wet & dry, but not enough in some areas. Any paint defects at all should be rubbed back to bare metal. And then just make sure you use one of those cork blocks & plenty of water, & start rubbing.
Any bit's of bare metal you've finished working on should be painted with primer & temporarily top coated if there's any chance you're gonna leave it for any long periods of time.
A book on the subject is always handy, apart from that I can only other thing I can think of is that the preparation is 99% of a paintjob, & if you really want a top notch result when it's all finished, get as much done professionally as you can afford.
